Om Tuesday, 29. march, Unnur Valdís Kristjánsdóttir and Omer Shenar will give a talk at the Museum of Design.

Unnur is the designer of Flothetta, an aquatic bodyworker and a yoga teacher. Omar lives and works in Israel as a rehabilitative hydrotherapist. They will talk about the history of water therapy and why water is so well suited for rehabilitation and nourishing for body and soul. They will talk about how their passon for water led to collaboration in creating a professional, Float Therapy.

The talk will be in English and Icelandic.

Pétur H. Ármannsson will give a lecture on the house of architect Högna Sigurðardóttir in Iceland on Sunday 6 March at 16. The lecture is held in connection with the registration of Högna's work, which has been running for the past three months in the museum's open research space.

Pétur mediated that Högna's family donated the drawings to the Icelandic Design Museum as a gift.

Please join us to celebrate the publication of a book on Kristín Þorkelsdóttir´s design career Sunday the 31th of October at 13. The book is published by Angústúra. An exhibition of Kristín´s work is currently on display in the Museum of Design and Applied Art.
Few designers in Iceland have created as many works that are present in Icelanders’ daily life as Kristín Þorkelsdóttir. Her work can be seen in the most mundane of places—in refrigerators, inside bags or at the dinner table—or in locations as inaccessible as the Central Bank’s vaults.
Curators, authors and designers of the book, Bryndís Björgvinsdóttir, Birna Geirfinnsdóttir and Arnar Freyr Guðmundsson, will give a lecture (in Icelandic) on the content of the book. The lecture which start at 13.00 followed by a publication party at 14:00.

Thursday night, January 15 at 8pm, Thor Magnusson former director of the National Museum of Iceland, gives a lecture on Icelandic silverwork. Thor is a specialist on the heritage made by Icelandic silver- and goldsmiths in former times. His lecture is given in connection to the ongoing exhibition PRÝÐI, on works by 40 contemporary goldsmiths at the Museum. In his talk, Thor will especially concentrate on 18th and 19th Century silverwork, he will explain the condition of silverwork in Iceland during those centuries and examine some great examples of silverwork that have been preserved in museums' collections.

In 2013, The National Museum of Iceland published Thor Magnusson's research, Íslenzk silfursmíð in 2 volumes.
