KRISTÍNÞORKELSDÓTTIR
GraphicDesignBecameMyDestiny

Sunday 17 October at 13 there will be a guided tour of the exhibition, Kristín Þorkelsdóttir, in the Design Museum of Iceland. The curator Birna Geirfinnsdóttir is in charge of the tour.

Few in this country have produced as many works of art, which are taken for granted, as the designer Kristín Þorkelsdóttir. Her work has been most prominent in the most mundane situations, such as inside people’s refrigerators, in their bags or during traditional dining. However, Kristín’s work can also be found in places as inaccessible as in the Central Bank’s locked security guards. Kristín is both the designer of numerous food packaging and the author of the current series of banknotes, which she worked on together with the designer Stephen Fairbairn. Kristín has also designed a wealth of advertisements, books and various nationally known labels, many of which have been in use for over five decades.

Behind each of Kristín’s nationally known works are a myriad of sketches, experiments and reflections, which have not been collected for exhibition until now. The exhibition therefore shows familiar and previously unseen works, which together gradually transformed a young visual artist into one of the country’s leading pioneers in the field of graphic design.

The entrance fee to the museum is valid.

Guided tour by the curator of the exhibition. The tour will be in Icelandic.
