Sveinn Kjarval – The Interiors Create the Atmosphere
The lecture will be in Icelandic.

Sveinn Kjarval became a popular designer for shops, restaurants and various public spaces in Reykjavík and all over Iceland from 1950–1970. Dozens of shop interiors designed by Sveinn Kjarval in a light modern style lined the streets of downtown Reykjavík. All of these interiors are now gone but their appearance is preserved in drawings and photographs. Kjarval always emphasized lightness, natural materials, open shelves and noticeably lightweight counters. All of these places were also given good indirect lighting and living plants.
